Growing up Black

So, the other day I was talking with a few of my friends about growing up Black, and we discussed how we’ve all had non-traditional Black experiences. Let me elaborate. Often times, people will ask if we’re really Black, which is an off-putting question to receive. ⁣

I share this to say that we don’t all act the same, look the same or feel the same way about everything, but what I can tell you is that Black people are diverse, and all of our experiences are unique. This is why @issarae is a ray of sunshine because she debunked many people’s stereotypes about the Black experience with her Awkward Black Girl series and now Insecure. ⁣

Can any of you relate to this? I’ve heard from other friends that this happens in their cultures too. We stereotype people a lot! Sometimes without even thinking. How many times have people assumed you’re of a different race and that influenced their treatment of you? Did you correct them? Tell me in the comments.
